Fall Shares Start Wednesday 10/2! Thank you Summer Members!

FALL CSA SHARES START WEDNESDAY 10/2!

I made a mistake last week and said shares start on the fifth, but it is actually Wednesday OCTOBER 2ND! We pick up right where we leave off with summer CSA shares.

There are a few shares still available if you want to sign up last minute. Share signups will close on Friday 9/27.

Members that already signed up will receive an information email regarding shares over the weekend or early next week.

Fall shares is the "farmer's favorite" share and has all the great storage veggies to last you through the winter! Lots of carrots, beets, potatoes, onions, winter squash, parsnips and sweet potatoes, as well as frost sweetened broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce, greens, leeks, radishes, greens, and more!

It's the last week of Summer CSA Shares! We've got a good final week of shares lined up for our members. It's been a fun summer. I hope our members feel the same. Every year is different. This time last year I was writing about the resiliency of our fields to keep producing through historic rainfall all summer long. This year we've been battling drought all summer! You never know what your're gonna get on the farm.

We had a productive year on the farm in spite of drought conditions. I was running the numbers on the weekly value of our CSA shares and am happy to report that we exceeded our target goal of 10% return on your initial investment into the farm! Through 15 weeks of the summer CSA the average weekly value of your veggies, flowers, and herbs was $47 if you were to buy the same items from our farm store or one of our market booths. That means by the end of shares this week, we will have returned about $750 worth of produce from the initial $600 you spent on your summer CSA share! It also means these last three weeks of the season have been free veggies!

There is something inspiring about our members sharing in the risk and the reward of growing local food. I've written about it before, but it means a lot to Joe, Rachel, and I that you trust us enough to buy into the farm before any food has been produced for the season. In the words of Booker T Whately speaking on his produce buying clubs (a prototype of the modern CSA in the US), "The clientele membership club is the lifeblood of the whole setup. It enables the farmer to plan production, anticipate demand, and, of course, have a guaranteed market, however, that means the grower had better work just as diligently at establishing and maintaining the club as at producing the crops."

Our CSA members are the lifeblood of the farm, and everything we do on the farm is with the membership in mind. You lend us your trust each spring to grow your food through the summer, and we will always work to repay that trust in us. Thank you for your support this year. Many of you we will see again starting with the fall CSA and others we will see again in the spring. Whoever you are, thank you for sharing with us this summer!

Last thing, for the final week of shares we will have a little fire and seating setup during pickup. There will also be hot cider. At 4pm I will give a walking tour of the farm for anyone that wants a guided tour of the fields you ate out of all summer long. The crew and I still have a few things to do post harvest, so we'll be out until the tour at 4. Rachel will be in the barn to help with anything you need!

See you all tomorrow!
